Normal intraoperative spinal sonography.
The normal intraoperative sonographic features of the spinal canal, spinal cord, conus medullaris, and cauda equina are described and illustrated. Important observations concerning the normal spinal cord include its highly reflective dorsal and ventral surfaces, its uniform hypoechogenicity, and the presence of a central echo. Other easily identified structures within the spinal canal include t...
متن کاملIntramedullary spinal cord tumors in children: localization by intraoperative sonography.
Intraoperative sonography was performed in 20 children in order to localize intramedullary spinal cord tumors. It provided excellent visualization of the extent and consistency of the tumor before surgical opening of the dura mater. The sonographic findings were used in selecting the site and extent of myelotomy. Intraoperative sonography proved to be a valuable adjunct to spinal cord surgery.
متن کاملIntraoperative sonography in spinal dysraphism and syringohydromyelia.
The use of intraoperative sonography was analyzed in 24 patients with spinal dysraphism and syringohydromyelia in order to determine the role of real-time sonography in the surgical management of these patients. Specific diagnoses included tethered cord (nine), syringohydromyelia (seven), congenital tumor unassociated with a tethered cord (four), diastematomyelia (three), and occult sacral meni...
متن کاملIntraoperative spinal cord monitoring for intramedullary surgery: an essential adjunct.
Intraoperative monitoring of the functional integrity of the spinal cord during removal of intramedullary spinal cord lesions is an aid in intraoperative decision making and a primary tool for the prediction of neurological outcome. Motor evoked potential monitoring has become the neurophysiological monitoring technique of choice for that purpose. In the senior author's experience with over 130...
متن کاملIntraoperative Sonography of Cervical Spinal Cord Injury:
Intraoperative spinal sonography (lOSS) with a 7.5-MHz sector transducer was performed in 30 patients with cervical spine injury associated with neurologic deficits. A laminectomy (25 patients) or anterior carpectomy (five patients) during spinal surgery provided the lOSS imaging window. The surgery was performed for either spinal decompression or fixation as part of the initial care of these p...
